The valve study group has an active programme of research and accommodates a number of research students at any point in time. Our current PhD students include:

Research Supervision

Dr Harminder Gill: 4D MRI flow in aortic stenosis

Dr Omar Chehab: Predicting functional recovery following mitral valve surgery

Ms Shu Wang: Development of 3D printing heart models

Mr Samuel Hill: Computational modelling to predict outcomes following transcathter mitral valve therapies

Dr Waqar Aziz: Cardiac CT for the evaluation of acute chest pain

Valve education

Many of the valve study group lecture nationally and internationally on heart valve disease at major cardiology congresses. These include the British Cardiac Society, The European Society of Cardiology, The American College of Cardiology, The British Heart Valve Society, The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, The European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging, The Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging, The British Society of Echocardiography, EuroPCR, EuroPCR London Valves, British Cardiac Intervention Society.

We also have put together a specialist meeting on Aortic valve and Root Disease in Younger Patients as this is a challenging management area.

Site visits

We remain committed to providing valve education and host national and international visitors to our heart valve clinic so other medical practionners can learn from our experience. We also provide training at request in advanced imaging modalities on a case by case basis.

Training Courses/Academies

Cardiac CT Training

Dr Rajani is on the Examination Writing Group for the Cardiac CT examination for the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and created the world’s first online Training Academy with the professional Education company Medmastery based in Salzburg, Austria.  The valve study group governs the administration of the London Cardiac CT Academy which is a 5-day Level II Training Course in Cardiac CT. Since its inception in 2015, this course has now become the largest training academy of its kind in Europe and hosts up to 36 international delegates annually with all proceeds going to the valve study group’s charity.
