My introduction to Cardiac Physiology began in 2010 when I completed the Bachelor of Science degree in Cardiac Physiology. Since my first work experience in Portugal until today, the ultrasound always plays a significant role in my professional life.
In 2014 I moved to the United Kingdom to work for the NHS, and my professional career changed positively in many different ways. In 2016 I gained accreditation in adult transthoracic echocardiography by the BSE. Since August 2016, I’m working as a Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. I have participated in the majority of the specialist clinics with, especially involvement in the congenital heart disease and research activities. In 2018 finished the second accreditation in echocardiography for congenital heart disease with the EACVI. At the moment, aim to complete the third accreditation in transoesophageal echocardiography.
More recently, in June 2019, I secured a place to start the Higher Specialist Scientist Training (HSST) programme with interest in congenital heart disease and the meanwhile, I’m finalising the Clinical Scientist equivalence process.
Along with that, I have been a FAME faculty member, completed a Postgraduate Associate in Health Care Studies for Planning and Managing Clinical Trial with Oxford Brookes University and was involved in research activities with research publications and on-going projects. Have been involved in the writing of two case reports about interesting adult congenital heart disease pathologies and since February 2019 I have been working in a research pilot study “First-phase Ejection Fraction – Evaluation of imaging biomarkers in cardiovascular medicine” between the Departments of Cardiology at St Thomas’ Hospital and King’s College London. As a result of that work have been awarded as the Young Investigator of the year with the abstract entitled “Comparison of 2D and 3D Echocardiographic measurements of First-phase Ejection Fraction” to the BSE national conference in October 2019.
